Student Stories

Gabriel Ole Kiperati
My name is Gabriel Kiperate, and this is my biography as requested by Nosim Maasai Mission. I am a young man, 21 years of age. My father passed away when I was two years old, and I have been under the hands of my mother since that time. I am the 4th child in mother's house. I have two brothers and six sisters. Five of my siblings are married. All of them missed the opportunity to attend school. I am the fortunate one. I attended primary school (grades 1-8) and received high marks on the national examination. I was accepted into a boy's boarding school. In form 3 (11th grade), I was forced to drop school because of lack of money to pay the fees. I returned home to my village, and the parents paid me a nominal fee to teach the children. After two years, I returned to school, and I graduated but could not obtain my certificate because of owning back school fees. Again, I returned home and taught the children for another year and earned the monies to pay for my certificate. I am currently still teaching the children at Ole Ki Munke School. My salary is $25 a month.

With a sponsor, I will be able to attend school to get my teaching certificate for the primary level. I am a Christian and want to devote my life to seeing that every child in my village has the opportunity to receive an education...Gabriel Ole Kiperati

Gabriel like Noah, is ready to graduate as a certified teacher in November. Unfortunately, he owes some back fees to the school and will not be able to obtain his certificate until he can pay for this last term and also make up the balance that is owning. Gabriel will teach at our primary school once he has his certificate...Nosim

Lilian Nosim Moshirla
Lillian Nosim is a very brave girl who has overcome many obstacles to receive an education. When she was 12 years old she ran away from home to avoid early marriage and female Circumcision.

She walked several days and spent the night in the woods. Her goal was to reach a Girl's boarding school she had heard of that rescues young girls. It was at this time that Lilian became know to Nosim Maasai Mission, and she was sponsored to finish primary school and high school. Upon completion of high school, she completed a 2 year Jr. college and would like now to obtain her bachelor's degree.

Lilian has reconciled with her family, and they are very proud of her accomplishments. She has cleared the way for many young girls in her village who wish to choose their destiny. She is indeed the heroine of her village.

Lilian's career dream is becoming a Lawyer. With a sponsor, Lilian will be able to move closer to her goal.
